Gresselmania Golf Classic

I got some exciting news to share with y’all. If you haven’t seen, the first Gresselmania Golf Classic is set to take place on September 3rd at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga. This has been an idea of mine since the middle of last year and now it’s finally happening. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a date last year, but we were able to get it going for later this year. My love for golf and the thought of giving back to the city made it an easy choice for me to try and organize a golf tournament with all proceeds going to a local organization that impacts the city of Atlanta and the people living here in a great way! My wife and I thought about it for quite some time, but then decided that there really only was one cause that we wanted the proceeds to go to: Soccer in the Streets.

I first got in contact with Soccer in the Streets during an appearance through Atlanta United. We were invited to officially open the Station Soccer pitch at the West End Marta Station. The experience I had there was absolutely amazing. Talking with kids, their parents, and officials from the city of Atlanta showed me the positive impact Soccer in the Streets has on the youth development in different parts of Atlanta. From there on, I stayed connected to the organization trying to be as helpful as possible. All proceeds from the golf tournament will go to Soccer in the Streets, which will help open another Station Soccer location at the East Lake Marta Station later this year.

Let’s actually talk a little bit more about the actual golf tournament. We’ll play a scramble format with some great on the course contests (e.g. hole-in-one to win a  Merced-Benz, longest drive contest for a new driver, etc.) followed by a relaxed post golf dinner/reception. The teams will either consist of 4 players brought from a sponsor or 3 players from the sponsor and 1 ‘celebrity’. These will include Atlanta United players, other pro athletes from Atlanta Sports teams, and other influential people in the Atlanta Sports scene. I am excited that especially within our team, there has been a great amount of interest from players and coaches to be a part of it.

Again, I am really excited about this opportunity to further develop the relationship between Atlanta United (especially the players) and the city of Atlanta, while at the same time raising some money to develop the city through Station Soccer and impacting young lives with the help of Soccer in the Streets. IF you want to be a part of it or have another idea of how you can help us, please reach out and contact us.

In the meantime, another tough stretch coming up for us on the field. Excited to start playing again in MLS and hopefully we can pick up where we left off. See you at Mercedes-Benz Stadium very soon.

This sounds awesome. Appreciate that you want to give back to Atlanta with such an important organization. I signed up to volunteer at the event with Soccer in the Streets and look forward to seeing the inaugural event unfold!
